Bringing their playfulness to unsettle colonial appropriation of artistic practices, Content Care will be inviting Egyptian maverick, Hassan Abou Alam, and the experimental Belgian-Iraqi trio, Use Knife, for an afternoon of dwelling and listening with their sonic practices.
Caring to know diverse artistic practices requires a certain humility, a desire to put down comfortable conceptual toolkits, to learn from others, and perhaps realise oneself anew. Sorting through complex histories of colonial-modernity, contemporary appropriation of local sonic traditions, and the emergence of sampling as a “global” phenomena, this conversation will traverse these hectic questions with love and invite the audience to listen to the sounds that shape these artists’ concerns.
Content Care is an initiative which provides integrated workshops and listening events which aim to empower people by embracing critical decolonial-feminist studies with artistic practices. Initiators are Aniketh Khutia, Vinícius Cardoso Witte, and Joe Leonard Walters.
