A stalwart of the underground Egyptian club sound, producer and DJ Hassan Abou Alam performs a live set at Rewire in the basement of Grey Space in the Middle. He has released music with labels such as YUKU, Rhythm Section, Banoffee Pies, Casa Voyager, and Nerve Collect – which released his recent EP Mesh Mafhoom (2024). On Mesh Mafhoom, Abou Alam’s creativity, experimentalism, and diversity of sounds are on full display. From the springy percussion of “Ghalat” to the bassy sci-fi odyssey of the EP’s title track, Abou Alam’s tracks are ever surprising: creating deep, rigorous sounds for the thinking-club-goer and the moving-club-goer alike. Falling somewhere and everywhere along the wide spectrum of industrial, techno, and club music, his inventive electronic productions are distinctive and impossible to define, but one thing is certain: there will be sub-bass and lots of it.
