In a little over two months' time, between 3 and 6 April 2025, Rewire will return for its fourteenth festival edition across The Hague’s city centre. Learn about all the new projects and artists joining the line-up below. Tickets are available via rewirefestival.nl/tickets
Rewire 2025’s artist-in-focus programme is based around the masterful experimenter Alvin Curran. At the festival’s opening night on 3 April, Curran’s Maritime Rites takes to The Hague’s inner-city body of water, the iconic Hofvijver beside the parliament building, for a performance of numerous musicians in boats. On Friday, Curran performs solo with shofar, piano, and electronics, ahead of his conversation with composer and sound artist Yannis Kyriakides on Saturday. On Sunday, Curran’s tribute to the world’s first instrument – the human voice – Canti Illuminati will be performed with live vocalists – tapping into the ancestral and deeply human tones summoned in the piece.
Returning to perform an exclusive show in the Netherlands at Rewire, is avant-pop favourite Panda Bear, who will present his new album Sinister Grift – a patient, California-via-Lisbon serving of psychedelia – accompanied by a full band for the first time. Premiering music from their forthcoming album, caroline step out of the intimate and towards the monumental with their new live show. The stirring organic-electronic sounds of Fennesz come to The Hague; he will perform a set combining his new album Mosaic with the music of its acclaimed predecessor Agora. A gleaming light of Copenhagen’s experimental pop scene, Erika de Casier is also confirmed for the festival, bringing her crystalline R&B sound from the acclaimed album Sensational and the hotly anticipated follow-up Still.
This year at Rewire, a number of new cutting-edge audiovisual encounters await. Kianí Del Valle Performance Group, Tayhana & Hamill Industries perform their intricate CORTEX live at the festival’s opening night on 3 April – exploring processes of grief, displacement, loneliness, and mortality through dance, music, and light. Also performing at the opening is producer, composer, and instrument builder Alessandro Cortini, presenting his new album. The wondrous Lyra Pramuk will present the world premiere of a new audiovisual show, alongside guest musicians, that expands her experimental chamber pop sound. The artist collective Verdensteatret will present Flat Sun, an unmissable work that combines an extended cinema experience with that of a concert and a theatrical performance. There will be brand new music from the genre-hopping club producer aya in the form of a new audiovisual performance with visual artist Marcel Weber, aka MFO. Composer, violinist, and music producer Katarina Gryvul presents the world premiere of her new project Spomyn with light design by Alex Guevara, and the duo of French sound artist and researcher Sébastien Robert and Dutch media artist Mark IJzerman bring Another Deep to Rewire 2025 for its world premiere.
Rewire 2025 will host myriad acts at the forefront of electronic, experimental, and club sounds; one such act is AKA HEX (Aïsha Devi & Slikback), a riotous collaboration that marks Devi's most dancefloor-focused work in years. The collaborative duo of James Ginzburg and Paul Purgas, emptyset, bring their grizzly bass and industrialized technophonics to the festival. John Glacier, who joins the line-up, is an incomparable new talent of alternative hip hop, whose untethered songs tremble with poetic lyricism, worn texture, and experimental vibrancy. Whether as part of Super Chron Flight Brothers, Armand Hammer, or as a solo performer, the storied and renowned New York rapper billy woods needs little introduction; catch him at the festival. Performing is Kassie Krut, a band who creates dreamy synth-punk with a breakcore essence of experimentality, percussive aggression, and rave-readiness at its centre. The producer, DJ, and musician Djrum, hot on the heels of his critically acclaimed Meaning’s Edge record, also joins the line-up. As does Lord Spikeheart, a performer like no other who combines howling metal riffs with gritty experimental hip-hop and noise production. The Soft Pink Truth will present a rare live performance of their colourful synthesis and funk percussion at Rewire 2025. You can also expect a DJ set from producer and DJ Tayhana, whose selections highlight the vibrant club sounds of South America. Possibly losing his shirt at the festival – who could say? – is your favourite DJ’s favourite DJ, ¥ØU$UK€ ¥UK1MAT$U, who promises one of his legendary DJ sets.
Experimental electronic duo Matmos will premiere their new album at Rewire 2025, while Wendy Eisenberg will perform their gentle brand of free-jazz with their band, playing songs from their latest release Viewfinder. Molina performs a set of her patented experimental dream pop; similarly shoegazey, but through an Irish-traditional lens, is the mumbled pop perfection of Olan Monk, who performs at the festival. An instrumental supergroup consisting of four veterans of New York’s jazz, indie rock, experimental, and improvisational music scenes, Body Meπa come to Rewire 2025 to perform their post-rock epics of delectable scale and cavernous breadth. YHWH Nailgun also join the line-up, bringing their ecstatic body music, lathered in percussion and distortion.
Kenyan composer and sound artist Nyokabi Kariũki & Cello Octet Amsterdam present the world premiere of a new collaborative work titled Birdsongs from Kĩrĩnyaga, where the voice of Kariũki joins the Cello Octet and field recordings of East African songbirds to explore the interplay between nature and human heritage. The 1-bit beauty of Tristan Perich’s Open Symmetry – composed for 3 vibraphones and 20-channel 1-bit electronics – will be performed by ensemble 0. Experimental electronic composer Elori Saxl will be joined by guest musicians to perform music from her debut album The Blue of Distance and recent release Drifts & Surfaces, while prolific jazz musician Elliot Galvin and his band perform material from his forthcoming album Ruins. Swedish-Danish quartet BITOI will present their upcoming debut album of beautiful choral songs that are equally humble and lavish at Rewire 2025.
