For the first time, Rewire is hosting Rewire Transmissions, a radio-making workshop led by Ceola Tunstall-Behrens (artist, educator and radio-maker), that invites participants to create live radio during the festival.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn about radio-making through making radio itself. Drawing on Rewire’s music, context, and film programme, participants are invited to delve into the festival – to observe, listen, and collect material that they will share with listeners through broadcasted radio shows. The workshop will culminate in a two-hour collective radio broadcast.
During the workshop, participants will discuss and experiment with radio-making styles and will receive close support in developing their own radio shows which will be a part of at least two collective broadcasts. Whether it be an interview, a mixtape, a documentary, a soundscape, or something else, participants will have the chance to explore and test their ideas in various formats. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet with the other radio communities that will also be attending the festival. The aim of the workshop is to introduce radio-making to people who have not done radio before and to offer them the chance to learn through doing.
The workshop is being hosted in collaboration with Radio WORM – the Rotterdam-based community radio station – who will be broadcasting live from the festival between Thursday and Sunday. The workshop will be hosted at The Grey Space in the Middle. Ash Kilmartin, programmer at Radio WORM, will also be joining during the workshop.
Please send a short introduction of yourself and a short motivation letter (max 250 words in total) to transmissions@rewirefestival.nl by Monday, 17 February. 10 participants will be selected and will be notified by Monday, 24 February. The participation fee for the workshop is €45,-. Participants will receive a link to buy a Reduced 3-Day Pass (€75,-) for the festival.
