Looking back at Rewire x Musica

24 Sep 2024

Look back at Rewire x Musica, a special two-day event curated by Rewire which took place at Festival Musica in Strasbourg. We were excited to host the following incredible artists: No Plexus; Aho Ssan & Sevi Iko Dømochevsky; Ziúr with Elvin Brandhi and Sander Houtkruijer; Kode9; Orphax & ensemble; Thomas Ankersmit; and Grand River & Abul Mogard. Enjoy!

During the first night of Rewire x Musica, on Friday 20 September, genre-queer experimental music duo and Rewire’s Young Artist in Residence No Plexus performed music from their recent album Rite of Passage, while Ziúr was joined live on stage by Elvin Brandhi and visual artist Sander Houtkruijer to present an audiovisual show centered around her latest LP Eyeroll. Aho Ssan performed his Rhizomes project with live visuals by Sevi Iko Dømochevsky. Lastly, electronic musician, DJ, and Hyperdub label boss Kode9 played a mind-bending DJ set. All of Friday’s programme took place at Strasbourg’s Maillon Theatre.

The second night, which happened on Saturday 21 September, featured ambient musician and composer Orphax performing his En de stilstaande tijd piece with a small ensemble consisting of Gareth Davis (bass clarinet), Marie Schmitt (cello), and Anne Gillot (recorder). Thomas Ankersmit premiered a new work for his signature Serge synthesiser, while Grand River & Abul Mogard presented In uno spazio immenso, their new collaborative album which was recently released on Caterina Barbieri's light-years label. On Saturday, all performances took place at Strasbourg’s majestic Église Saint-Paul.
