The first full programme day of Rewire 2025 is in the books. We hope everyone had a wonderful time exploring the city centre of The Hague and experiencing all of Rewire’s screenings, installations, talks, and performances. Join us in looking back at some of the highlights from the day, as captured by our photographers.
Early in the evening, Oslo-based artist collective Verdensteatret presented their one-of-a-kind performance Flat Sun. The group of video and sound artists, painters and poets, sculptors, and computer programmers took to the stage of Theater aan het Spui’s Zaal 1 two times yesterday to perform their extended cinema experience. Flickering lights, noisy texture, ghostly projections, and spectral performers moved across the stage as the work’s scenography morphed alongside them.
At Amare’s gorgeous concert hall, saxophonist and composer Colin Stetson performed an unforgettable set to a spellbound audience. Later on that same stage, Nala Sinephro’s soothing harp, blossoming brass flourishes, and arpeggiating synth melodies gifted onlookers with delicate reflections on joy, grief, and rebirth.
Just before nine, people packed into PAARD I to witness the ethereal pop of Oklou, while elsewhere, at Korzo, the four-piece group BITOI enraptured the audience with their interplay of choral singing and majestic bass lines.
As the clock struck 10, YHWH Nailgun took to the stage of Concordia, performing a bristling set of songs from their newly released and critically acclaimed album 45 Pounds (2025). Around the corner, back at PAARD I, as their set drew to a close, aya & MFO began their audiovisual show – quaking the foundations of PAARD with rumbling bass and dousing the entire room with light. At Theater aan het Spui, Kinlaw’s kinetic performance brought the chaotic and playful energy of her music to life through a calisthenic show of movement and sound. Don’t miss her when she returns to Theater aan het Spui again this evening and on Sunday.
As midnight struck, the trickster duo Two Shell emerged onto PAARD I’s stage, bringing their mutant dance music with them. A few steps away in PAARD II, MC Yallah & Debmaster performed tracks from their forthcoming album on Nyege Nyege, showing why Debmaster’s high-intensity productions are a perfect fit for MC Yallah’s unbounded lyricism.
Before AKA HEX (Aïsha Devi & Slikback) took over PAARD I, to perform an energetic show – featuring a guest appearance from Lord Spikeheart, who performs later this evening – Takkak Takkak brought their DIY instruments to Concordia and played a trance-inducing set of intense percussion and howling vocals.
