Lord Spikeheart’s African influences

As part of a new series of playlists from artists performing at the festival, Rewire is proud to present a playlist curated by Lord Spikeheart.

Lord Spikeheart, vocalist and producer from the African metal scene, creates unique music drenched in industrialised distortion. Coupling the harsh noisy textures of death metal with hip hop and trap beats, he left a mark with his acclaimed debut album The Adept (2024), on his own label HAEKALU Records. Lord Spikeheart, ahead of his performance at Rewire 2025, was invited to curate a playlist that shares inspiring sounds from his hometown of Nairobi and other parts of the African continent.

He says, of the playlist:

“I’ve curated a playlist including some of my musical influences from different parts of Africa, from the past and present. Ranging from heavy metal bangers by Myrath from Tunisia and Skinflint from Botswana to the angelic melodies of the great East African singer Khadija Kopa and the sweet ballads by Ayub Ogada from Western Kenya. I’ve chosen sounds that generally represent what I listen to on a daily basis to draw inspiration and insight during my songwriting process. Enjoy.”
