With a career spanning over 40 years, Wire are one of Britain’s crucial and enduring post-punk groups. Cycling through phases of reinvention, over the decades the band has twisted punk, rock, noise, new wave and avant-pop sensibilities to their will, crafting a slew of albums that have never sounded the same twice. Frontman Colin Newman and original guitarist Bruce Gilbert formed the band in London in the mid-’70s during the UK punk explosion. With Graham Lewis on bass and Robert Grey on drums, Wire’s first trio of albums (‘Pink Flag’, ‘Chairs Missing’ and ‘154’) serve as a hallmark for British experimental rock music. With a lineup now featuring Matthew Simms on guitar, since the departure of Gilbert, Wire bring the taut and complex songwriting of their current album, ‘Mind Hive’, to Rewire 2020.
