Verdensteatret

Flat Sun

NL Premiere

Verdensteatret is an artist collective based in Oslo. Since 1986, when they were founded by Asle Nilsen and the late Lisbeth J. Bodd, the group have worked continuously, pushing the boundaries of theatre and visual art – prioritising an approach of long-term development and ongoing experimentation in their practice. Today, the collective consists of video and sound artists, painters and poets, and sculptors and computer programmers who join together to create intricate audiovisual works. One such piece, Flat Sun, comes to Rewire 2025. This unmissable and unique work combines an extended cinema experience with that of a concert and a theatrical performance to create a one-of-a-kind encounter. Thematically, Flat Sun draws inspiration from the cyclical nature of energy and waste, in both human and non-human life. Within a Lynchian assemblage of flickering lights, noisy texture, ghostly projections, and spectral performers, Flat Sun prompts the audience to consider the fragile boundary between useful objects and abject ones, between music and noise, and between radiance and shadow.

The work is created and performed by Ali Djabbary, Annike Flo, Asle Nilsen, Elise Macmillan, Espen Sommer Eide, Laurent Ravot, Linn Nystadnes, Janne Kruse, and Torgrim Torve. Produced by Martin Taxt.
