This event will celebrate the launch of the book, Listening: A Research Method in Art and Design, the latest edition in the KABK Design Lectorate’s Art & Design Research Practices series. The programme features a curatorial performance by sound theorist Salomé Voegelin and sound practitioner Loma Doom, followed by a conversation with some of the book contributors: Justin Bennett, Channa Boon, Louis Braddock Clarke, Femke Dekker (Loma Doom), Cecilie Fang, Guy Livingston, Salomé Voegelin, and moderated by Alice Twemlow. The 240-page publication Listening: A Research Method in Art and Design, features essays, Q&As, project reflections, and prompts by students, tutors, and staff from the Royal Academy of Arts and Royal Conservatoire. It is designed by Niels Schrader and edited by Alice Twemlow.

In conjunction with the book launch, the Research Lab Soundscape will present a series of performances. Soundscape is an interdisciplinary, collaborative program between students of the Royal Conservatoire (KonCon) and the Royal Academy of Art (KABK). Every year, the lab results in a performance evening in Korzo Theatre during the Spring Festival. Soundscape invites students from both institutes to collaborate and discover new ways of bringing together sonic and visual materials, leading to a series of short performances combining scenographic designs and compositions.

On Thursday 4 April, the following projects of last year’s edition will be performed: Horse 1 and 2 by Juliette Hengst and Liza Kuzyakova, Scream of nature by Britt van den Boogaard and Isaac Barszo, Shells of light by Mateusz Godlewski, Akiko Mik (original co-creators Indra Joachimsthal and Haevn Aalbersberg), and Spinning Top by Pam Breedveld and Fernande Bloemen.
