The improbable and magical intergenerational collaboration between Oceanic – leftfield electronic producer – and Greetje Bijma – legendary improvisational vocalist of the Dutch jazz scene – emerged from a chance meeting between the two musicians. This marriage of unlikely worlds spawned the acclaimed collaborative album Swallow a Party (2019): on it, Bijma's guttural, lofty, and rhythmic vocal experiments melded with Oceanic's buoyant, and adventurous club-ready production. Five years on, the duo returned in late 2024 with Sykheljende Lûden, a new album where Bijma's virtuosic singing guided a more stripped-back production approach from Oceanic – which allowed for softer moments of ambient, experimental production, complimented by energetic moments of minimal tech-house majesty. Joined by a shared influence of sea-scapes on creative pursuits, the duo splash around in the fluid potentials of improvisation and collaboration, swimming against the current to create something distinctly their own.
