Sugai Ken is an experimental electronic musician from Kanagawa, an area just outside of Tokyo’s dense urban sprawl. Over the course of his decade-long career, he has refined his deeply resonant and enveloping world of sound into a unique synthesis of traditional Japanese instrumentation and field recordings taken from around his home. His latest album, UkabazUmorezU (不浮不埋) – which roughly translates to ‘slow and steady wins the race’ – comprises hypnotic ambient compositions that conjure the subtle and profound ambience of a night in Japan.
