Finland’s Siinai are an underground supergroup of sorts, boasting members from Joensuu 1685, Zebra and Snake & Äänijännite. Their album Supermarket, released this summer on Norway’s Splendour label, looks to create (in the band’s own words) “a soundtrack for the supermarket nations”. Although this may sound slightly grandiose, their approach is a charming and enervating mix of ambient and progressive trance; with a nod to the quirkier, murkier scenes that made up the Krautrock canon, such as the work Moebius and Plank released in the late 1970s.
