The duo of French sound artist and researcher Sébastien Robert and Dutch media artist Mark IJzerman bring Another Deep to Rewire 2025 for its Dutch premiere. This stirring A/V performance explores the impending deep-sea mining planned for the Svalbard region of Norway – an act with devastating implications upon the environment, geopolitics, and the ocean’s indigenous ecosystems. Reflecting on climate change, industrialisation, and resource exploitation Another Deep is set against the backdrop of political tensions in the region. It aims to highlight the often overlooked processes whose effects quietly influence the surrounding world in significant ways. Pulling from different research and materials, the piece offers a textural view of the sonic and visual elements that make up the Svalbard region – one of the world’s most northerly inhabited areas – inviting the audience to reflect on the repercussions of these often unseen acts of tragic ruination.
