Oneohtrix Point Never

NL premiere

Where do you start with Oneohtrix Point Never? A project as renowned as it is difficult to pronounce, the music of Daniel Lopatin is forever warping and finding new sonic crawlspaces to inhabit. At Rewire 2024, Lopatin performs an exclusive live A/V show with artist Freeka Tet. Across Oneohtrix Point Never’s 10 studio albums and numerous film soundtracks – including his iconic work for the Safdie Bros’ Uncut Gems (2019) – Lopatin’s compositions and productions have brought a mortal frailty to the monolithic digitality of contemporary life – filled as it is with frenzied noise and hyperactivity. Oneohtrix Point Never has proven he has the rare skill of always pushing forward sonically while remaining precisely himself. His latest album Again (2023) moshes virulently in the genre pit: from the poppy warbled refrains of “World Outside,” to the toybox grunge of “Krumville,” and to the glitched-out, humane robotics of “Plastic Antique,” Again heartedly denies categorisation. “I’m not a nostalgic person,” Lopatin says in Crack Magazine, “but I do fundamentally love to use the past as a gift that’s been given to me.” This ability to make mammoth aural collages from glimpses of culture, both past and present, mean that his songs are imbued with an uncanny, timeless sensibility. Like the sensation of déjà vu, Oneohtrix Point Never’s music has an eerie familiarity to it that feels like something remembered from a distant future. It’s immaculate. Witness it live as the closing performance of Rewire 2024 at Amare on Sunday evening.

Please note: for the concert of Oneohtrix Point Never on Sunday 7 April, a Plus Ticket (€5, including service and transaction costs) is required. You will receive a drink voucher in return. Please read the reason behind the Plus Ticket here.
