Better known as Oklou, Marylou Mayniel is a musician, singer, music producer, DJ, and composer who makes glistening nostalgia-tinted future-pop. Prolific since 2014, with releases on labels such as PC Music and Nuxxe, her breakout mixtape-album was the self-released Galore (2020), a defining release for the pandemic moment – offering listeners a warm, emotive embrace during a time of separation. A frequent collaborator – with artists such as Sega Bodega, Bok Bok, Shygirl, A. G. Cook, Coucou Chloe, and underscores – Oklou’s sound has crystallised over the years. Almost in a relationship of symbiosis with her surrounding collaborators and influences, Oklou’s productions morph and shift, tethered by ambient pads they flow between moments of euro-dance tonality and quiet R&B melody. Oklou moves from strength to strength her forthcoming album on label True Panther, choke enough (2025) – where murmuring chamber pop and sparkling ambient production entangle as a new evolution of her distinct sound.
