ML Buch is the project of Danish composer and producer Marie Louise Buch. While her debut album Skinned (2020) borrowed from the jagged polygonal synthworld with its digi-jangle MIDI instrumentation, follow-up Suntub (2023) leans closer into warmer tonalities. A confetti of gleaming guitars hum together in a vibrating assemblage of up-and-down tunings, swathing chords, and frozen sustain. On both records, ML Buch’s gorgeous voice washes through everything, soothing and bringing life to all it touches. Although hued by a nostalgic warbly quality, ML Buch’s songs have a timeless quality, as if they’re recorded in a wormhole linking distant pasts with near futures. The songs themselves retreat and return like waves, lapping, fluid in their discernible difference yet clearly part of the same ocean. Soaking with reverb and pleasant, peculiar melody, ML Buch’s experimental pop songs leave wet footprints in their wake – all leading back to the earnest, fluid possibility resting at the shores of her music.
