Since 1997, musicians Drew Daniel and M.C. Schmidt have been making music as Matmos. The experimental duo are respected as innovative auteurs in their craft – creating sample-infused electronic music that traverses the entire frequency spectrum and genre spectrum as well. They creatively warp and stretch sounds into jumbling and expansive works of tonal disorientation and rhythmic intensity. Matmos treat the world around them as a toybox of potential sound sources: from amplifying the nerve tissue of crayfish and putting contact microphones on human hair, to sampling the curious sonics of liposuction surgery, cameras, and VCRs. Taking the minimal musique concrète approach and glitching it playfully into a rumbling clump of maximal sound, Matmos are masters of sound assembly and composition. Following their acclaimed albums The Consuming Flame (2020) and Regards​/​Ukłony Dla Bogusław Schaeffer (2022), Matmos return to Thrill Jockey Records with a new album in 2025; they present the world premiere performance of it exclusively at Rewire.
