M. Lamar

Performing on Friday 3 April

M. Lamar is a composer who works across opera, metal, performance, video, sculpture and installation to craft sprawling narratives of radical becomings. Lamar holds a BFA from The San Francisco Art Institute and attended the Yale School of Art, sculpture program, before dropping out to pursue music. Lamar’s work has been presented at some of the world’s leading art institutions and cultural spaces, including Funkhaus in Berlin, MoMa PS1 in New York and The Meet Factory in Prague. The artist has written and self-released a series of academically-informed modern opera pieces. His latest, ‘Lordship And Bondage: The Birth Of The Negro Superman’ engages with the African Americans’ experiences of enslaved and liberated consciousness, combining modern classical music with black and doom metal.
