Between Soundwaves brings together participants from the Sandberg Instituut’s Artificial Times and Studio for Immediate Spaces Departments to share their sound practices, instruments, and methodologies as both investigative tools and forms of artistic expression. Over the course of four hours, the session spans a wide range of styles, merging live electronic music, Turkish pop, field recordings, and interaction between sound and quantum light with voices and narrations drawn from radio wave archives, experiences, and imaginaries. They materialise in diverse formats such as interactive 3d video, live performances, and real-time compositions using low-tech instruments and programs. The works touch upon daily conversations, sonic disruptions of infrastructural sites, and cultural connections to music. Each piece offers a glimpse into the artists’ investigative processes, reflecting on how sound can serve as a tool for exploration and a medium for engaging with different surroundings, histories, and futures. As the short performances extend in relation to each other, they create immersive auditory experiences where experimental sound practices cross disciplinary boundaries.
