Lechuga Zafiro is a Uruguayan DJ and producer who recently released his debut album Desde los oídos de un sapo (2024) on TraTraTrax. Taking the club sounds that are quaking dancefloors across South America and filtering them down to their minimal, rhythmic, bassy foundations, Zafiro creates his music using field recordings of different materials: metal, wood, glass, rock, toads, birds, sea lions, and water, recorded across South America and beyond. From the bubbling resonant ambience of "Encauce Destellante," to the springy percussive energy of "Cama Rota," Zafiro's album is a rich biome of living sounds. Considering the amphibian qualities of squelchy textures and playful bouncy percussion across Zafiro's music, it's unsurprising to see a frog adorning the cover of many of his earlier releases. In his tracks, tempos slip and slide while samples stretch and snap back; the elasticity of Zafiro's music is given new life in his live shows of motorik club for every species.
