Her first cinematic effort in thirty years, ‘Heart of a Dog’ is a stunning exploration of love and loss prompted by the death of her cherished canine companion, Lolabelle. A patchwork of animations, video diaries, 8mm home movies and artwork culled from exhibitions past and present, the film unfolds as a sustained meditation on death and absence. Narrated by Laurie Anderson with her characteristic wit, it spans musings on Tibetan Buddhism, reincarnation, the modern surveillance state and the artistic lives of dogs, all the while accompanied by a dreamlike score of her own violin compositions and soundscapes.
Laurie Anderson is the Rewire 2018 Artist in Focus. In addition to the Heart of a Dog screening, she’ll also be presenting her new performance, All the Things I Lost in the Flood, an artist talk with The Wire and the performance of Sol by Ragazze Quartet.
