Heralded by the futuristic computer-generated cityscapes that have become a signature feature of his work, Lawrence Lek’s mini-opus ‘Geomancer’ summons the spirit of our rapidly dawning age. Set in Singapore on the eve of the city-state’s centennial in 2065, ‘Geomancer’s’ lead is an AI determined to escape its subservient role by becoming an artist. Part philosophical reflection and part playful inventory, ‘Geomancer’ is a provocative stimulation for both the eye and the mind.
‘Geomancer’ is presented as part of the Rewire 2019 discourse programme, which is open to the public. The film can be attended without a Rewire 2019 ticket.
