Fennesz

For over 25 years, guitarist, composer, and electronic musician Christian Fennesz has been gathering scattered guitar fragments into glitched-out tapestries of textural and tonal wavering. Emerging from the Viennese techno scene of the 1990s, Fennesz chose the guitar as his instrument of choice, using it to develop a distinct organic-electronic sound. He followed up his milestone third album Endless Summer (2001) with Venice (2004), which both influenced decades of ambient and experimental music that followed. His latest album Mosaic (2024) is reflective in both its definitions: in terms of its intimate, personal, and self-reflexive forays, but also in how, like the sun hitting calm waves, its tones shimmer reflectively. Fennesz creates sonderous music that peels open the veil, offering epiphanies that glimmer in the distance and then fade out of view. From these glimpses of beauty, and with these half-remembered truths that echo in his otherworldly compositions, Fennesz assembles a maquette of life as richly vibrant, astonishing, and unpredictable as life itself can be. At Rewire, he performs music from both Mosaic and its acclaimed predecessor Agora (2019).
