aya sinclair, better known as aya, is a DJ, producer, and self-proclaimed “real person” from the north of England. Thematically, her work considers the transfigurative power that experience and memory has on one’s physical body; sonically, her productions traverse a spectrum of club sounds, from drill and jungle to deconstructed club, footwork, and techno. Her recent EP, Lip Flip (2024), provides grime-infused club tracks and electronic experiments flush with cut-up vocal sampling, abstract melodic synths, and tectonic bursts of bass. Her critically acclaimed im hole (2021) is a fever-dream (dis-)assembly of sub-bass, texture, and percussion. At Rewire 2025 aya performs music from her forthcoming album hexed! (2025), which marks a new step forward in aya’s practice.

On Friday, 4 April, aya will enter into a conversation with Hugo Emmerzael on her work and her position as an artist and producer, unpacking her extensive sonic universe with a focus on her new record hexed!, while collectively listening to fragments from the album.
