Conversation: Tactology Lab and Taxonomies of Noise

with Roald van Dillewijn, Michelle Vossen, RɅɅɅF /Unbinare and Yolanda van Welij, and hosted by Ash Kilmartin (Radio WORM)

Together with workshop leaders and participants, Radio WORM’s Ash Kilmartin will enter into a conversation about the creative processes and practices behind Tactology Lab and Taxonomies of Noise: two workshops involving different forms of instrument-making, craft, and attentive listening.

Tactology Lab is a recurring workshop programme initiated by Sounds Like Touch. This edition around the theme of ‘craft' is curated and led by Roald van Dillewijn and Michelle Vossen. The program brings together 13 makers, combining craft, technology, and performance into new musical instruments. The results of the lab will be presented at The Grey Space on Sunday April 6 at 16:00-17:00, prior to the conversation.

Taxonomies of Noise is a lecture series designed for diverse educational levels, from secondary schools to higher education. It examines various classifications of literal and metaphorical noise to explore philosophical concepts ranging from Heraclitean thought to epistemological anarchism. This iteration is led by RɅɅɅF and Yolanda van Welij (Haags Theaterhuis). Using custom hardware, students will participate in constructing an ambient noise composition by RɅɅɅF, while learning deep listening, and establishing a dialogue about the breadth of subjective experience, with all of its associations, thoughts, and emotions. Given the often ambiguous nature of noise, techniques inspired by theater will help guide the imagination.
