FLEE is an art collective founded by Alan Marzo, Olivier Duport, and Carl Åhnebrink. It operates as an independent publisher, record label, and curatorial platform. By shedding light on subjectively selected sound and cultural phenomena, FLEE interacts with contemporary artistic approaches. The transdisciplinary initiative explores and emphasises the contours of globalisation from both historical and critical perspectives. Its installations, commissioned works, and objects have been featured at various institutions worldwide, including Jeu de Paume (Paris), Offprint (Tate, London), and more.
After years of traveling the globe and interviewing musicians, researchers, artists, and activists from various cultures, the collective will explore the concept of authenticity in light of its latest research and experiments, using various examples and illustrations. What defines an authentic musical culture? What forces shape its boundaries? What problematic power dynamics are at play? Alongside these topics, FLEE will also demystify its way of navigating the cultural sector as an independent publisher and record label. The interactive discussion will be followed by a listening session.
