Bendik Giske is an artist and saxophonist using physicality, vulnerability and endurance as his tools of expression. He takes the building blocks of electronic music and plays it live—without layering or looping, to the best of his ability, allowing all the faults of being human come through. He cites Lindstrom’s arpeggio sounds and Evan Parker’s circular breathing as references, and by combining the two extreme sides of the scale, he seamlessly fuses freeform jazz and club music. His most recent album Cracks, released on Smalltown Supersound, follows the acclaimed debut, Surrender, and Untitled, a collaborative project with Pavel Milyakov aka Buttechno, who’s also performing at Rewire 2022 with Yana Pavlova. Collaborating with producer André Bratten, Cracks sees Giske using his signature physical and hypnotic techniques, but incorporating an even more extensive set of electronic and digital tools to bridge the gap between man and machine.
