NL premiere
Astrid Sonne is a London-based Danish composer and viola player whose work delves into a wide spectrum of experimental and pop sounds. Her debut album Human Lines (2018) was an angelic, synthy decree of electronic experimentation, making pilgrimage to nearly all corners of contemporary electronic music through its variance and colour. She pushed this electroacoustic experimentation further with follow-ups Cliodynamics (2019) and outside of your lifetime (2021), introducing collaborative vocalists to the mix. On her third full-length LP Great Doubt (2024), blissful ambient sounds cut through bass-heavy beats, arriving like a mirage. Developing the vocals which she introduced to her sound in Cliodynamics, this latest release, Great Doubt, is a beacon of dub-infused solemn-pop. Piano melodies and atmospheric compositions beckon the listener deeper into the emotional and thoughtful world of Sonne’s lyrics and vocals. Her words and themes touch upon personal, human issues with a heart-wrenching sincerity that is strengthened by the introduction of Sonne’s own voice to the fray. It’s blissful to listen to.
