Animistic Beliefs (DJ set)

Animistic Beliefs is the duo of artists, producers, and DJs Linh Luu and Marvin Lalihatu, of Vietnamese-Chinese and Dutch-Moluccan descent, respectively. Their amorphous and ever-surprising sounds have been gracing sound systems across the globe, as they've gone from strength to strength, developing their distinctly decolonial and shamanic club sound. Their most recent album MERDEKA (2022), on cult Mexican City dance label NAAFI, seeks to offer restorative sounds for healing the latent wounds of post-colonial, intergenerational trauma – through the cathartic and resistive potential of the dancefloor. The duo present their vibrant audiovisual performance Thức Tỉnh at the festival – developed with media and performance artist Jeisson Drenth – which harnesses the spirituality of contemporary rave music and links it with the various heritages that the artists emerge from. Later that evening, Animistic Beliefs take up the mantle of underground stalwarts behind the decks of The Grey Space in the Middle's basement for a euphoric and sticky closing DJ set.
