Arca, aka Venezuelan producer Alejandro Ghersi, creates work that is in turns unpredictable, exciting and immensely thought provoking; manipulating sonic textures and forms into hard-hitting yet surprisingly poppy narratives. Arca is on the point of releasing his debutalbum, Xen: described by the artist as a “metamodernself-projection” and intended as his most “intimate” workyet. “This is the first record where I want to confront others with certainthingsabout me,” he says. “I didn’t want to filter myself.”
Arca is also known for his work on FKA twigs’s EP2 (and then subsequent work this year’s LP1). More recently he has worked as a production consultant on Kanye West’s Yeezus; the resultant interest from which leading to a temporary, self-imposed exile from all media activity. Despite his distrust of too much media attention, Arca will continue to work with high profile artists; he is scheduled toproduce the next album by Björk.
Arca plays OT301, Overtoom, Amsterdam on Thursday, December 4. Arca will be joined by his visual collaborator of many years, Jesse Kanda. The entrance fee is 10 euros and doors open at 20:30. RSVP on Facebook.
An extended interview withArca can be found in The Fader.
