Pharmakon is the guttural sounds of human pain – screams, growls and heaves – that emerge from New York City-raised power electronics specialist and noise artist Margaret Chardiet. With a selection of keyboards, pedals, loops and a microphone, Pharmakon constructs a cavernous sonic nightmare, engaging her voice and breath to the point of collapse, and dragging audiences into her bewitching disorientation. A founding member of New York’s Red Light District collective, Pharmakon has been a figurehead in the city’s underground experimental scene since the age of seventeen. Debuting with her highly charged album ‘Abandon’ via Sacred Bones in 2013, Pharmakon releases her third record for the label, ‘Contact’, the day before her Rewire 2017 performance.
